300 series stainless steel is an alloy material containing iron, carbon, nickel and chromium, a non-magnetic stainless steel material, which has better malleable characteristics than 400 series stainless steel. Due to the austenitic structure of 300 series stainless steel, it has strong corrosion resistance in many environments, has a good resistance to fracture caused by corrosion caused by metal overstress, and its material properties are not affected by thermal treatment.

According to the American AISI standard, stainless steel is represented by three Arabic numerals. The first digit indicates the category, and the second and third digits indicate the sequence number.

First digit:

2: Cr-Ni-Mn; (200 Series)

3: Cr-Ni; (300 Series)

4: Cr; (400 Series)

5: Low Cr system;

6: precipitation hardening system.

In stainless steel, there are two opposite forces at work at the same time: the ferrite forming element is constantly forming ferrite, and the austenite forming element is constantly forming austenite. The final crystal structure depends on the relative amount of the two types of added elements. Chromium is a ferritic forming element, so it is a competitive relationship between chromium and austenitic forming elements in the formation of stainless steel crystal structure. Because both iron and chromium are ferritic forming elements, the 400 series stainless steel is completely ferritic stainless steel and has magnetic properties. In the process of adding austenitic forming element - nickel to iron-chromium stainless steel, with the increase of nickel composition, the formed austenite will gradually increase until all the ferritic structure is converted to austenitic structure, so as to form 300 series stainless steel.
